Happy Birthday Blackwood High School!
Blackwood High School celebrates its 50th birthday this year. It opened in February 1961 with 221 children, Headmaster, Mr Arthur Burfield and 10 staff members. Temporary timber buildings were the only facilities and sporting activities had to be held in the Belair Park.
In 2011 the school community are celebrating 50 years of achievements, history and friendships associated with the school. It will be an opportunity to reflect on the past but also a time to look forward and plan for the future.

We would like to contact as many of our alumni as possible. The more old scholars and staff we can spread the word to, the more special we can make our celebrations. Please complete the attached Registration Form and return it to the school. The registration form can be downloaded from here.
Decade Coordinators are busy trying to contact previous scholars of the school. They are the person to get in touch with if you wish to be placed on the old scholar's database to be kept informed of upcoming events.

Volunteers Needed
Do you have a few hours a week to spare or can you assist with a one off small task? We would appreciate any involvement that you may be able to have. Some examples of tasks that we require help with are:
- - Other student's information - Please forward any information on ex-students that you may have. If you can provide us with an email address, postal address, or telephone number then we will follow up on all leads.
- - Memory Lane - We wish to create a memory lane where old memorabilia and photos will be displayed. Are you available to assist with the retrieval of items, sorting through memorabilia and displaying such items into a decade group of interest to you? This could also include pulling out relevant photos and articles from the school archives that would be of interest.
- - Slideshow/Powerpoint displays – Do you have a flair for and enjoy displaying information in a creative manner?
- - Volunteers on the day of events - Many hands make light work. We require lots of helpers to set up, staff stalls and clear up on the day of major events.
If you are interested in any of the above roles or would like to discuss other possibilities please feel free to give Christopher Daw or your Decade Coordinator an e-mail or phone call.
